Herb was born in New York state to Irish parents, Frederick Jardine and Agnes O’Neill Jardine. He attended Harrison High School in Harrison NY and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Manhattan College. He served as an US Air Force officer during the Korean conflict, posted in Okinawa.
Herb met his future wife, Dixie Lee Coggin of Birmingham, on a blind date. They were married for 57 years until her death. Herb and Dixie lived in Marietta GA for 35 years. The last few years of his life were spent at Lenbrook, a retirement home in Atlanta, where he was active in clubs and social life.
Herb had a career as a chemical sales manager beginning with the Diamond Alkali Company, and worked for them through various corporate changes, ultimately to Occidental Petroleum. He retired in 1992.
Herb was a devout Catholic and served as a reader at St Ann Catholic Church in Marietta. He was an active member and hospital visitor for the Mended Hearts Association and held the position of President of the local chapter for many years.
Herb is survived by his 7 children, Jim Jardine of Austin, TX, Ann Flanagan of McLean, VA, John Jardine of Douglasville, GA, Richard Jardine of Kennesaw, GA, Don Jardine of Elijay, GA, Tom Jardine of Pensacola Beach, FL, and Tim Jardine of Virginia Beach, VA, and 13 grandchildren and by his brother Dave Jardine of Sharon CT. He was predeceased by sisters Sheila Sheehan and Marianne Carpenter.
Visitation will be at HM Patterson & Sons Funeral Home at 1157 Old Canton Rd NE, Marietta Ga. on Tuesday evening, September 1 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm A funeral mass will be celebrated at St Ann Catholic Church in Marietta Ga on Wednesday, September 2 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Arlington Memorial Park on Mt Vernon Hwy in Sandy Springs, GA.
