Ella McCune (Nita) Aycock beloved wife, mom, grandma, Gigi, and mother-in-law stepped out of time into eternity and the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in the early morning hours of October 4, 2024, just minutes after her 89th birthday. Nita was born October 3, 1935, in Marietta, Georgia to Samuel M. McCune and Carrie Long McCune. She spent her childhood years in Chatsworth, Georgia and, after graduation, came to work for Lockheed where she met her adoring husband, Charles B. (Charlie) Aycock. They were married December 14, 1956, and together had three sons and a daughter.
Nita was the matriarch of a large family and was the glue that held everything together. Diminutive in statue, her demeanor and personality shaped the lives of four children, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Her warm and friendly personality endeared her to many friends, men and women alike.
In younger years she loved to visit her beloved north Georgia mountains with her husband, Charlie, where they would find a remote trout stream to fish. (She nearly always out-fished him!) Vacations with her children and grandchildren were always highly anticipated and enjoyed. The joke was that the kids took the grandparents along for Grandma's chicken & dumplings and Granddad's home-made ice cream.
Although always unpretentious she was thought by many to be the matriarch of Roswell Street Baptist Church, where she headed the new-born nursery for over twenty years, and was wedding coordinator for a similar period. In her earlier years she taught 8-year-old girls in Sunday School.
Nita is survived by her three sons, Charles Michael Aycock (Sandy), Jeffrey Alan Aycock (Tammy), Timothy Scott Aycock (Tassie), and daughter Sandy Aycock Waldrop (Richard); ten grandchildren: Lauren Aycock Ferree (Duane),Christina Michelle Aycock, Michael Lee Kennedy, Dillon Dunbar, Cana Dunbar Connaughton (Alec), Treva Scot Aycock, Brantley Theodore Aycock (Claudia), Kayla Waldrop Raper (Corey), Kendra Waldrop Jenkins (Blake), Kelsey Waldrop Hernandez (Jonathan); eleven great grandchildren: Braxton Ferree, Harper Rose Ferree, Conway Biddy, Cheyenne Dunbar, Alyssa Dunbar, Kyleigh Raper, Kensley Raper, Clay Raper, Dallas Jenkins, Hampton Jenkins, and Austin Jenkins. She was predeceased by father Sam M. McCune, mother Carrie (Genie) Long McCune, Sister Betty Jean McCune, and brother Marvin R. McCune.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13th at Roswell Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends the Saturday prior from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Mayes Ward Dobbins Funeral Home, Historic Marietta Chapel as well as the hour prior to the service at the church.
Flowers will be appreciated. Alternatively, contributions in Nita's name may be made to t2t.org or samaritanspurse.org.
