Ed was born on October 19, 1939, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He grew up in Roselle, New Jersey and attended Abraham Clark High School. He obtained his Associate Degree from Union Junior College in Cranford, New Jersey. He joined the Navy in 1957 and served abroad the Destroyer, USS Ault, until honorably discharged in 1962. He then began a successful 31-year career with I.B.M
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Gustave and Adeline Mae (Green) Eckert, Grandparents, Johann and Hedwig (Brugger) Eckert and Mary Mae (Lorentz) Green.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carolyn (Chadwick) Eckert and his son Edward Franklin Eckert (Wife Shelly), daughters, Susanne Carlson and Dawn Marie McLendon. Five grandchildren, Taylor Gray Eckert, Joseph Eckert, Ella Eckert, Travis McLendon and Tiffani McLendon and three great-grandsons, Dominic, Sebastian and Timothy. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Ann Buturla, her husband Kenneth, and their children Terri-lyn Smith and Michael Buturla. Also, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ed was a long-time member of St Ann's Catholic Church and very active with the Knights of Columbus (Council 8376 Assembly 3770) and Marriage Encounter. He loved spending time with his family and traveling with Carolyn and going on cruises with long-time friends from St Ann's Church. He was a computer nerd and could fix just about anything. We are truly going to miss his quick wit, kindness and loving heart.
Services will be at St Ann's Catholic Church, 4905 Roswell Rd, Marietta, Ga. On Thursday, March 2nd, 2023 at 11 a.m. A Celebration of his Life Reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
