Eddie Joseph Knope Jr., age 54, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on Friday, March 29, 2024. Eddie was born on December 11, 1969, in Morgan City, Louisiana, to Eddie and Mary Kay Knope. Upon graduating from Morgan City High School, he attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Soon after completing college, Eddie moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where he enjoyed a 25-year career as a computer programmer for various Georgia-based corporations including Home Depot, Macy’s, UPS and Glock, Inc.
Eddie’s favorite pastimes were spending time with coworkers, traveling to see his lifelong friends in Morgan City, playing golf, going to movies, and smoking his pipe. His dream was to retire to Morgan City, buying a small house and a boat so he could go fishing with his buddies.
Eddie had a quiet and kind soul that earned him the well-deserved moniker “sweet Ed.” He never had a harsh word for anyone, unless you were unfortunate enough to be driving too slow in the passing lane. Eddie was also known to have a penchant for conspiracy theories and short Asian women, but to be fair who doesn’t?
Eddie was a doting son, loving brother, and “the favorite uncle.” He was extremely generous with his family, especially with his niece and nephews. He always made time to play games, work puzzles, watch movies and throw the football well after dark.
He is survived by his parents Eddie and Mary Kay Knope, his two brothers, Jason (Christy) and Eric (Katie), and his niece and three nephews, Emma Knope, Jackson Knope, Holden Knope and Luke Knope.
Eddie was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Peter and Antoinette Spinella, his paternal grandparents Henry and Leola Shepard, and his aunt Susan Spinella Holloway.
A visitation/wake for Eddie will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at H.M. Patterson & Son-Canton Hill, 1157 Old Canton Road Ne, Marietta, GA 30068.
He will be greatly missed by all who have been fortunate enough to know him. A celebration of life will also be held in Louisiana with information forthcoming.
