William Douglas Langmack passed from earth to Heaven in the early hours of April 23, 2025 following a valiant 20-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in New York, NY, to Carl John and Elois Langmack, he grew up in Warren, New Jersey on the family farm alongside his sister Sue.
Doug and JoEllen began their love story 42 years ago when JoEllen started a career as a legal assistant at Wadsworth & Langmack law offices. They were married on May 30, 1987 and their devotion to each other over the years was evident to all. They were well known for Doug being behind the camera at many family events while JoEllen would create collages, videos and scrapbooks. Together they raised three children, Nathan, Jenna and John.
Doug had a passion for learning and, as a result, obtained a B.S. Degree and Masters from Virginia Tech in Civil Engineering, a Juris Doctor from Woodrow Wilson College of Law and an MBA from Emory University.
While attending school at Virginia Tech, Doug was drafted into the U.S. Army serving two tours as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. His Army decorations include the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
After the war, Doug worked as a Civil Engineer before receiving his law degree at which time he began his legal practice. He later joined JoEllen at Perfect Search, Inc, as co-owner where he worked until retirement.
His life is marked by faithfully following Jesus and his service to the church where he was a member for 27 years. As a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Atlanta, Doug was elected by congregational vote to the Board of Deacons. He served in the Promise Keepers ministry. Also, during his years at Mt. Vernon, Doug felt led to build a playground and spent every Saturday for one year working on it until it was completed. In addition, Doug and JoEllen enjoyed teaching different Bible Studies at their home for many years.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Carl John & Elois Langmack and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Margaret Boomhower. He is survived by his wife JoEllen of nearly 38 years, his sons – Nathan (wife, Alison), John Langmack and daughter Jenna Swan Langmack as well as three grandchildren, Will, Laura and Cooper Langmack. He is also survived by his sister, Sue (Langmack) Gookin and brother-in-law, Ken Gookin.
Doug will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a very disciplined person in his 20 years with Parkinson’s disease and a humble guy with a servant’s heart. Those who know him well will remember his great love for tennis, photography, Coca Cola, Hilton Head Island, SC, the Braves, running the Peachtree Road Race with his oldest son, and visiting with his many friends and fraternity brothers.
Family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5 pm until 8 pm at the funeral home. Funeral service for Doug will be held Friday, May 9th at 10:00 am. Doug will be interred at The Georgia National Cemetery 1080 Veterans Cemetery Road, Canton, Georgia at 2:30 pm.
“…the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.”
2 Timothy 4:6-8
