Doris McNamee Curtis, 80, of Powder Springs, Georgia passed peacefully in her home on May 25th, 2023. The family will receive friends and serve light refreshments on Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta, Georgia - funeral service to follow immediately in the onsite chapel with Ricky Gray officiating.
Private family interment will follow at Kennesaw Memorial Park in Marietta, Georgia.
Doris was born in Memphis, Tennessee to Eleanor and R.W. Dillehay, and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a nurse after attending Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing.
Doris was a cherished mother, grand-mother, sister, daughter, and friend - creative, supportive, nurturing, loving, and dependable.
She was a lover of all animals, with a special fondness for cats.
Doris spent many hours feeding and watching birds and passed that experience along to both her young children.
She had a love of travel and made many memories on trips with her sister, daughter, and mother including trips to Arizona, Charleston, New Orleans, New York, Paris, and Africa.
She expressed her natural creativity through woodworking, painting, decorating, sewing, and knitting (to name just a few of her outlets). Eventually, she turned her crafting hobby into an Etsy business. She was also famous (at least to her kids) for her “Mommy Make-up” dishes that she whipped together on-the-fly, but always came out as if perfectly planned.
Doris is survived by her mother: Eleanor Gibson of Marietta, GA; sister: Karen Simmons of Powder Springs, GA; daughter: Karla Curtis of Atlanta, GA; son: Jay Curtis of Beverly Hills, MI; daughter-in-law: Christie Curtis; grandchildren: Brennan and Caitlyn Curtis; and a host of extended family and friends.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kennesawmemorialpark.com for the Curtis family.
