Mr. Charles L. Wharton, Jr. age 89, of Woodstock, GA, died on November 15, 2016. Mr. Wharton was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Danette Rutledge Wharton; his eldest son, Daniel Lancaster Wharton; his mother, Laura Warren Wharton; and his father, Charles Lancaster Wharton, Sr. He is survived by a sister, Laura McCollough, of Duluth, GA; a son Jeffery Charles Wharton ( Sherry), of Greer, SC; a daughter, Laura Wharton- Mero (Mike), of Acworth, GA; three grandchildren, Ashley Swann (Bradford), of Greer, SC, Jessica Hellrung (Nick), of St. Augustine, FL, and Alex Wharton, of Charleston, SC; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wharton served in the United States Navy on active duty for five years and an additional ten years as an active duty reservist. He is a World War II veteran and was assigned to Attack Squadron Fifteen which was assigned to Air Group One, where he served as a carrier pilot.
Mr. Wharton was employed by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation for over thirty-six years as an engineer, subsequent to receiving his Masters of Science in Aeronautical Engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. While at Lockheed his last assignment was the Deputy Project Engineer for Structures on the C-5B aircraft
Graveside services will be held at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00AM, with Rev. Don Esa officiating.
