Coach Carlos Alfonso Soler-Portela "Carlitos", age 30, of Smyrna, passed peacefully on September 29, 2023 in a room surrounded by family and friends--hearing his favorite music, favorite memories and how deeply loved he was.
He lived a full life and shared his many passions and talents with others generously to build community. People from all over created deep connections with him in many ways such as: cuisine, music, volleyball, coaching, art, cinema, comedy, coffee, games, plants and culture.
He was born May 16, 1993 in Camp Pendleton, CA. He graduated Lake Brantley High School in Florida and then graduated from LaGrange College for musical composition in Georgia. He felt a strong calling for coaching that extended beyond his love for the sport and was driven by his passion for building character and helping others realize their impact and potential. He was the Head Coach of Women's Volleyball at Life University, coached boys volleyball for 7 years at A5 Volleyball Club and was a coach for the Southern Region High Performance volleyball program.
Survived by his parents, Carlos Alfonso Soler and Ana Isabel Soler; sister, Ana Isabel Gosliga "Anita"; brother-in-law Jon Gosliga; nephews, Eli, Daniel and David Gosliga. He impacted many lives and the stories we have heard have only illuminated the beautiful person that he grew up to be. His passion, creativity, humor, and loving-kindness will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 1 PM in the chapel of Georgia Memorial Park Funeral Home with Chaplain Judd Henley officiating. Interment will follow in Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive family & friends between the hours of 5 until 8 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
