Anthony “Tony” Donald Simpson died peacefully on October 28, 2023 in Dallas, GA. Born March 28, 1955, the youngest of four children to Mary Sue and Thomas L Simpson in Smyrna, GA, Tony was a lifelong resident of Cobb County. After graduating from Campbell High School class of 1973, he began work for Maxwell & Hitchcock Construction Rental as a maintenance technician. In 1982, Tony began his law enforcement career with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office working as a jailer. He graduated from the North Central Georgia Law Enforcement Academy in 1983 and was assigned to field operations in the uniform division. Tony was then promoted to the rank of Investigator and assigned to the Fugitive Division. In 1992 he was detached from the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Division to work for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Metro Fugitive Squad, where he was assigned along with other metro Atlanta law enforcement agents working violent fugitive investigations. In 2003, the Metro Fugitive Squad was replaced with the United States Marshals Service Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, where Tony was sworn in as a Special Deputy by the Attorney General John Ashcroft, becoming a founding member and a team leader. Tony was instrumental in closing countless state, local and federal violent fugitive cases resulting in the arrests of those charged. Assigned to assist in many highly publicized fugitive apprehension operations, Tony worked day and night until the individuals charged were brought to justice. He was relentless in his investigations into the whereabouts of the individuals charged with such heinous crimes, hoping to bring some closure for the victims and families affected in each case.
In May of 2010, Tony retired from Cobb County and the US Marshal’s Service with a stellar record for an outstanding career that spanned 28 years. As an avid Georgia Bulldogs fan, Tony enjoyed game days with family and friends, either “between the hedges” or watching on TV. He enjoyed much of his retirement traveling, fishing with the Rebel Bass Club and spending time with family and friends. Known and loved by so many, he will be greatly missed.
