Thomas was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose life was defined by his deep faith, his love for family, and his many talents. He was married to his beloved wife, Renell Herold, for over 43 years, and together they raised two sons, Ryan and Brett Herold. Thomas was a proud grandfather to three cherished grandchildren: Delilah, Lachlan, and Lennox, who brought him immeasurable joy.
A man of strong faith, Thomas was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Marengo, IL, where he found solace and strength through prayer and worship. His commitment to his spiritual life was a guiding light for his family and friends, and his relationship with God was central to everything he did.
Thomas loved his country. He served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years in photographic intelligence before transfering to the Naval Reserves.
Thomas enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, particularly spending time outdoors. He had a passion for fishing, often spending time with his sons and friends along the water. His love of nature was matched by his craftsmanship; as a skilled carpenter, he created beautiful and timeless pieces that reflected his creativity and attention to detail.
Thomas was known for his quiet strength, his generosity, and his unwavering support of those he loved. He will be remembered not only for his talents and accomplishments but also for the love and kindness he showed to everyone he encountered.
He is survived by his wife, Renell; his sons and their wives, Ryan & Natalie, and Brett & Heather; his grandchildren, Delilah, Lachlan, and Lennox; his siblings; brother Ron and wife Paula Herold, sister Pat Gosh, brother Stephen Herold, brother Wayne Herold, and twin sister Terry and husband Bucky Duerre; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Parish in Marengo, Illinois, on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 from 4:00-6:00 PM. A memorial mass will be held the following day on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Marengo, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Thomas's legacy of faith, family, and craftsmanship will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. May he rest in peace.
