The family of William (Bill) Herbst has announced with deepest sadness that he died early Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018 of complications arising from Alzheimer’s disease. If you had the good fortune to have met Bill, he was a robust, tall, and handsome man. But beyond the externals, he was a man of constant good humor and intelligence who was always willing to extend a hand or lend an ear, or a few bucks if you were running low. Bill was an extraordinary man who touched more lives than we will ever fully know.
Bill is survived by his adored wife Dolores, his sons Bill III (Ralph), Douglas, and Todd (Brandie), and his granddaughters Paisley, Minty, and Capri. There are also many cousins, nieces, nephews and dear lifelong friends who are mourning this loss. He is preceded in death by his beloved brother Robert (“Bob”), who also suffered from the complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
There will be a memorial service at Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home, 577 E Elkcam Circle, Marco Island on Thursday, April 19 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the Hideaway Beach Club House, 250 South Beach Drive, Marco Island from noon to 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Support Network at 600 Tamiami Trail North, Suite 21 in Naples FL, 34102; Avow Hospice at 1095 Whippoorwill Lane in Naples, FL 34105; or JFCS of Southwest Florida at 5025 Castello Drive, #101 in Naples, FL 34103 for the Marco Island Dementia Respite Program.
