Stanley Stein, of Mercer Island, Washington and Murphy, North Carolina, (formerly of Marco Island and Satellite Beach, Florida) passed away April 24, 2024. He was a retired Vice President of Bank of America, working for the bank in New York, Singapore, Thailand and Florida. He joined the bank as a clerk, after service in the Army and working his way to Vice President in both International and Domestic operations.
Stanley was born February 19, 1936 to Jacob and Rose Stein in Brooklyn, New York. He served in the U.S. Army, Infantry from 1954 to 1956, with all of his overseas duty as an Infantryman in Germany. He was active in the Jewish War Veterans holding in addition to other duties, Commander of Post number 53 Brooklyn, New York and Quartermaster Post number 202, Naples, Florida. After active army duty, he joined the New York Guard as an enlisted man and after taking various courses and training, rose to the rank of Captain.
He enjoyed competitive shooting and was a member of: National Rifle Association, Richmond Boro Gun Club, Staten Island, N.Y.; Colonial Rifle and Pistol Club, Staten Island, N.Y.; Port of the Islands Rifle and Pistol Club, Port of the Islands, Florida; Mountain Country Rod and Gun Club, Murphy, N.C.; Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club, Jackson, N.J.; and was a member of the New York Guard, 2nd Regiment, Rifle Team, which twice won the statewide championship.
He was a congregant and life member of The Jewish Congregation of Marco Island and was a financial officer for four years, two of which he was treasurer.
Later in life, he found love again in his surviving, longtime life-partner, Monica Johansson Reifeiss. He spent most of his time eating, reading and watching the news. He also enjoyed sneaking sweets, traveling and found a passion for cruising, visiting many countries. He loved his Boston Terriers deeply and enjoyed his time spent with them as did “the boys,” Blue, Butchie and Sammie.
Stanley was predeceased by his loving wife, Elaine Schecter Stein, two sisters: Florence Stein Good and Elaine Stein Molowitz, niece Ann Molowitz and parents, Jacob and Rose Stein.
He is survived by loving nieces and nephews: Norman (Meryl) Good of Manalapan, NJ; Linda (Bill) Good-Bungarz of Staten Island, NY; Helen Busch of Walnut Creek, CA; David Molowitz of San Francisco, CA; and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his loving partner, Monica Johansson Reifeiss, stepson Jeffrey Reifeiss (Monica) and grandchildren Matthew and Emily, all of Mercer Island, Washington.
A graveside service will be held at Marco Island Cemetery on Friday, May 3 at noon located at 489 W. Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, Florida.
