Pierre Marie Coant passed away on January 15, 2020 at the age of 94. His passing occurred following complications from pneumonia. He had been a resident of Marco Island, Florida over the past two decades and recently began residing at the Arlington in Naples, Florida. He was a former resident of Woodbury, New Jersey.
He immigrated to the United States of America from Huelgoat, France. He graduated first in his class from the University of Rennes with a master’s degree in chemical engineering, and a doctorate in petroleum engineering from the Paris Petroleum Institute.
He worked for the Exxon Mobil Oil Company as a Senior Research Scientist, where he was widely regarded as a leading scientist in the petroleum engineering community, formulating several patents of marine engine oils, and traveling throughout North America, Europe, and Asia assisting various marine engine manufacturers with precise oil formulations in order to extend the lives of their motors. He worked mainly at the Exxon Mobil facility located in Paulsboro New Jersey as a Senior Research Scientist.
Beyond his professional accolades, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He never missed a significant family event, birth, graduation ceremony…even a swim meet; he enjoyed hunting, boating, snorkeling and water sports.
He is survived by his beloved wife Jacqueline G. Coant, MD of 63 years; his two sons Pierre N. Coant, MD and his wife Katherine; and Charles I. Coant, Esquire and his wife Sonya; and four grandchildren Angela, Charles, Anne, and Brittany.
Services will be held at 11am, January 24, 2020 at the Hodges Josberger Funeral Home, 577 East Elkcam Circle, Marco Island, Florida followed by a private burial. Pastor Chris Sheriff will perform the funeral service. A reception at The Arlington will follow.
