James William Hughes, 87, beloved husband of Linda Greenwald Hughes of Marco Island, FL and Pittsburgh, PA died peacefully in Florida on March 8, 2023 with Linda and daughter Karen by his side. Born September 13, 1935 in Pittsburgh, son of the late James C. Hughes and Madeline Vernon, brother of Caroline “Cal” Walsh and late brother Robert Vernon. Jim was preceded in death by his late son, James R. Hughes. He is survived by his daughter Karen Cummings (Brian), and son Jeffrey Hughes (Stacey); stepdaughters Jami Young (Lane) and Kara Langley (Sean). Jim is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Brian, Jenna (Pat), Amber, Jeffrey, Abbey, Ryan, Christian, Kinsley, Isaiah and Grace. Jim was ecstatic to learn this past December his granddaughter Jenna will be welcoming his first great-grandchild due in August! Jim is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Jim was the consummate salesman rising to the top 1% of all salesmen in the Prudential Insurance Company and national sales manager for the J Edward Connelly Associates bank marketing firm in Pittsburgh. Jim also started several companies in the restaurant business including a Chicago style Deli, Pizza franchise, and the Linden Grove nightclub with his former wife, Joan. In addition, Jim started an insurance brokerage company and partnered in a credit line marketing venture, Hughes Financial. Jim was small in stature but large in presence and always up for telling a good joke! Known for his love of animals of all kinds, happy hours, coupons and discounts and an active member of the South Hills Republican Club in Mt. Washington. Jim was also active in his two condominium associations serving several years as a board member. Jim taught electronics as a specialist in the US Army but shockingly was unable to turn on a computer! Jim was known to be very careful about spending money yet was extremely generous with his family! A celebration of life will take place on April 15th, 2023 at 5:00 pm at The Duchess in Marco Island, Florida and another in Pittsburgh where he will be interred at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies in Washington county, PA.
