Dennis MacDonald, a devoted father of four, was born in Medford, Massachusetts. He later became a cherished resident of Marco Island for 35 years. He passed away peacefully on June 3, 2024, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Known for his unwavering kindness and willingness to assist anyone in need, Dennis was a joy to be around. His warm smile and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Dennis will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he called home. May his spirit of generosity and love continue to inspire us all.
Dennis is survived by his children: Jennifer Gleason and her husband Donald, Kelly MacDonald and her significant other Danny, Henry MacDonald and his wife Abigail, Joseph MacDonald and his wife Fadela. He lovingly adored his grandchildren: Henry, Gibson, Noah, Rosie, and Cory. Dennis was deeply loved by his brothers Joe and his late wife Jackie, Lenny and his late wife Lynda, John and his wife Joni, and sister Kathy Catanzano and her husband Paul, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was the son of the late Catherine and Joseph MacDonald.
As a child and young adult, Dennis was known as "Dennis the Menace", always getting into mischief and working on his next big adventure.
Dennis grew up in Medford, MA, and graduated from Medford High in 1965. He lived in various places, including Georgetown, MA, West Newbury, MA, and Ogunquit, ME, before settling down on Marco Island. Wherever Dennis was, he enjoyed gathering at the local coffee shop with friends, the most recent being Wake Up Marco. He volunteered his time during the Christmas season, playing Santa for various charities, bringing smiles to the faces of many children, a role he truly cherished.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Marco Island on June 29th from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Hodges-Josberger Funeral Home. Additionally, a celebration of life will be held in Massachusetts on July 20th at the Knights of Columbus in Wilmington from 1 PM to 5 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Toys for Tots.
