Helena M. Mace, age 89, of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Gerald M. Mace Sr. with whom she shared 41 years of marriage.
Born in Marblehead, she was the daughter of the late George and Margaret Atkins
She was the devoted mother of Jerry M. Mace Jr., Garry R. Mace (Kristine), Margo M. Sullivan (Stephen) and Leslie A. Ormonde (Joseph); the cherished grandmother of Jason Mace (Annie), Joshua Mace (Patricia), Nathan Mace (Rachel), Tyler Mace, Katlin Simula (Rick), Connor Sullivan (Justine Saxe) and great grandmother to Blake and James Mace, Nora and Emmett Simula, Theodore and Elliott Mace. She was predeceased by her brothers George and Stan Atkins, and sisters Lydia Rood, and Elizabeth Broughton. She is survived by her brother -in-law Glover Broughton and is the beloved aunt to several nieces and nephews.
She grew up in Marblehead and graduated from Marblehead High School with the class of 1951. A diehard “Header”, she raised her family in Marblehead, and was a mainstay at all Marblehead Magician football games and local events. She worked in the Salem Hospital Admissions Department for 25 years. She was a devout member of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church. She volunteered for many years at Our Lady, Star of the Sea School and the Marblehead Council on Aging. She enjoyed international travel and was an avid and knowledgeable NFL, college football and professional golf fan. She cherished her time spent with family and loved socializing with a host of close friends at local establishments.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday September 28 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead, 142 Elm Street. A funeral service for Helen will be held on Friday, September 29 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead Ma. Interment will be private.
