MARBLEHEAD - Edward Joseph Riley Jr. of Marblehead, died peacefully in his home surrounded by family members on September 15, 2021. Ed was born in Salem, MA in 1924 to the late Mary and Edward Riley. He attended Salem High School and College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. He graduated the four year program in three years through the Naval ROTC program and was immediately deployed to the South Pacific during WWII. He served as a Lieutenant officer on a naval ship from 1943-1946 before returning home.
Ed dedicated his life to his family and friends. Ed and family were long time members of the Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead and spent summer weekends with family and friends boating in the local waters. Although not an avid skier himself, he was always sure to bring his family on winter ski vacations in New England and spring trips to Florida. In his early adult years he spent time racing off the waters of Marblehead in the US1 design class with his close friends. As his children grew older he enjoyed watching their athletic teams throughout their high school and college years. Ed will always be remembered as a true family man and and lived his life under the philosophy that if his family was happy…..he was happy.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Sally Riley of Marblehead, daughter, Robin Riley and husband, George Jebrine of New York City, and son, Edward Riley and his wife, Kirsten and two granddaughters, Morgan and Emma of Rowayton, CT.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 24th at at 10:00 a.m. at Eustis & Cornell of Marblehead,142 Elm Street. Burial will follow at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.EustisandCornellFuneralHome.com for the Riley family.
