Carl Herman Much passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Penacook Place in Haverhill, MA, after a brief illness with family by his side.
Born in Aurora, Illinois on January 7, 1939, he was the son of the late Carl E. Much and Verna L. (Schmidt) Much. He grew up on a farm in Marion Wisconsin and graduated from Marion High School in 1956.
He attended the University of Wisconsin where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He also went to the Leland Stafford Junior University where he earned a Master's degree.
Carl also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge as a second lieutenant.
Carl worked at MIT Lincoln Labs in Lexington, MA as an electrical engineer, group leader and supervisor for 38 years until his retirement.
In retirement he enjoyed traveling to many places with his beloved Ardeth by his side. He enjoyed many family reunions where he played his favorite ship captain and crew dice game. He enjoyed all sports especially football. He went to many Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packer games. He loved playing golf and he was a passionate fly fisherman.
Carl was an easy going, kind, and compassionate man who always volunteered to help elders with tax preparation and rides to area hospitals and doctors’ offices. He was a very religious man who attended St. James Episcopal Church in Groveland, MA for many years, helping with finances as treasurer.
Besides his beloved wife Ardeth, who died January 1, 2023, Carl was predeceased by his daughter, Susan L. Much, his younger brother James Much, and his sister-in-law, Cheryl G. Campbell.
Carl is survived by nieces, nephews, many loving cousins, extended family and close friends from all over the country, including close cousin and friend, Jean Bergman and his former wife Gail A. Much. Carl will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by everyone who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, 119 Washington Street Groveland MA. 01834. A reception will be held in the Parish hall immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers contributions in Carl’s Name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
