SANDOWN, NH / MARBLEHEAD - Barbara Ruth Waitt, 87, of Sandown, NH, formerly a longtime resident of Marblehead, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 24, 2022 surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the beloved wife of Stanley Evans Waitt with whom she shared 69 years of marriage.
Born in Salem, MA, Barbara was the daughter of the late Everett Eaton Carlton and Gertrude May (Peach) Carlton. She was the devoted mother of Sandra Logan and her husband, Michael, Carlton Waitt and his wife, Gail, Robert Waitt and his wife, Katy and Robin Breda and her husband, David; the cherished grandmother of Sean Odell, Jennifer Monahan, Daniel Waitt, Ian Logan, Nicholas Waitt, Joseph Waitt, Alexander Logan, and Richard Waitt; beloved great grandmother of Grace Odell, Lily Odell, Brandon Monahan, Lucille Williams, Charles Williams, Rilee Waitt, Aria Waitt, Brody Logan, Blake Logan, and Brice Logan; and the dear sister of the late Everett Carlton Jr., the late George Carlton, and Ralph Carlton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Throughout Barbara’s childhood she enjoyed riding horses at her family home on Lincoln Avenue. She grew up in Marblehead, MA, and graduated from Marblehead High School with the class of 1952. After her marriage to Stanley Waitt on February 26, 1953, she raised her family in Marblehead, MA. She enjoyed riding a pony cart with her children through Marblehead. Barbara enjoyed raising horses and dogs and loved traveling with her husband. She was an avid knitter and made her children and grandchildren fisherman’s sweaters and Christmas Stockings. Barbara spent her golden years with her retired husband riding motorcycles, snow mobiles, and jet skis. They built a waterfront home in Sandown, NH. She enjoyed birdwatching from her lakeside window and had a particular soft spot for the hummingbirds. More than anything, Barbara cherished her time spent with family and loved hosting family gatherings “On Golden Pond” (Angle Pond Sandown, NH).
A graveside service celebrating both Barbara's and Stanley's lives will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead, attendees to gather inside the main gate at 294 West Shore Drive at 10:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to MSPCA Nevins Farm, 400 Broadway, Methuen MA 01844 or via https://www.mspca.org.
