Born in Newburyport, the second child and daughter of Helen and Charles Davis of Danvers, Barbara and her sister ”Babe” went through the Danvers school system. Barbara later graduated from Boston University and taught high school English before marrying Charles Cross of Marblehead. They had 39 blessed years of marriage living in Marblehead and enjoying their second home, Crosswinds in Limerick, Maine; both always filled with family and friends.
Barb had been an avid skier, golfer, and traveler and also returned to teaching in Marblehead. She was a volunteer at both Salem Hospital and Peabody Essex Museum. A very active parishioner at St. Andrews Church for over 60 years, Barb enjoyed teaching Sunday school and being involved with the women’s guild. She loved fierce family card games, monthly luncheons with “the Danvers girls”, and reading.
She leaves behind her 4 children, Chuck and his wife Sharon, Sandy Regis and her husband Ron, Deb Sheehan and her husband Greg, and her youngest daughter Marty. She was also blessed with 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Regis) Steele and her husband Christopher, Matt Regis, Shawn Regis and his wife Bethany, Clay Close, Casey Sheehan, and Chandler Cross. Her 4 great-grandchildren, Tessa and Tyler Steele, and Blake and Dylan Regis will miss their Great Nana Barb as will she be missed by the many loving nieces, nephews, and friends she had throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 135 Lafayette Street, Marblehead on Saturday, October 29 at 11AM. Arrangements by Eustis and Cornell of Marblehead.
