Marvin Joyce (Jack) Nitzinger of Sandy Harbor, Marble Falls, Texas, died on October 20, 2015, at the age of 86. He was born in Arlington, Texas on June 13, 1929 to John Henry Nitzinger and Nora Huffman Nitzinger. He married Bobbie Jean McCray in 1954 in Belton and had two children, Diane and Michael. Betty Jean passed away in 1976. In 1979, he married Norma Jean Hecht Smithey Nitzinger.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Raymond, sister Bobbie Jean Nitzinger, son Michael Nitzinger, and wife Norma Jean Hecht Smithey Nitzinger.
He served in the infantry in the Korean War, and then worked as a diesel mechanic for over forty years. He performed many jobs and was a true “Jack of all trades.” He was able to fix any engine or mechanical problem and generously repaired neighbors’ lawn mowers and golf carts. In Sandy Harbor, Jack was officially recognized for volunteering his time as "General Fixer and "Machine Man". Jack was a member of the VFW Post 10376 in Marble Falls, Texas. He and Norma served at St. Dominic’s Church in Houston, and St. Paul the Apostle Church in Horseshoe Bay. They also volunteered at SunBelt Regional Hospital in Channelview, Texas. Jack and Norma moved to Sandy Harbor in 1997 and were members of the Sandy Harbor Volunteer Fire Department and the Property Owners Association. Jack doted on his wife, Norma, and gave her many happy years.
He was patient and generous with his many children and grandchildren. He loved with a quiet strength. He will be deeply missed by his children Diane (and Walter) Daniel of Williston, South Carolina, James Smithey (and Robyn Pritchett) of Marble Falls, Jennifer (and Joel) Monroe of Grapeland, Jessica (and Larry) Anderson of Omaha, Nebraska, Judi (and Bobby) Wallace, of League City, John K. (and Shelli) Smithey of Round Rock, and Cyndi (and Jimmy) Brackeen of Cement, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his grandchildren Dallas Smith and great granddaughter Charlotte; Levi (and Bonnie) Smithey and great grandson Witten; Josh (and Ashley) Nitzinger and great grandsons Hayden and Grayson; Kyle (and Vickie) Monroe and great grandchildren Danielle and Matthew; Travis Monroe and great grandsons Riley and Colton; Megan (and Nathan) Grigsby; Bennett Anderson; Bethany Anderson; Sara Wallace; Caitlyn Wallace; Taylor Smithey and great grandson Brooks; John Paul Smithey; Hunter Stutts; Madison Goldstein; and Cash Smithey.
There will be a memorial service on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Sandy Harbor.
