John was born in McAllen, Texas on November 3, 1950. He attended Our Lady of Sorrows School, graduated from McAllen High school in 1968 and Pan American University in 1975 with a degree in government.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Deborah Kay Townsend, daughter, Whitney Presley (Dondee), son Ross Townsend and the love of his life, his granddaughter Dawn East Little. He is also survived by his brother William Townsend (Diane), brother in law Jeff Beaver, sisters in law, Cyndy Marsh (Mike) and Sheryl Calhoun (Wilson) and his mother in law Kay Beaver. His nephews include Kyle Townsend (Amanda), Brady (Lesli) Townsend, Scott Townsend, MacLane Townsend, Travis and Hayden Calhoun, and Randy Marsh (Rachel). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Townsend, his father in law Bill Beaver, and his nephew Brandon Buchi.
John was a minor league baseball player in Houston. He loved to coach and watch his children play softball and baseball. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a major organizer and chairman of the Valley NRA. He was an expert in the car business, whether it be in parts, buying cars, sales or management. All his coworkers looked up to him for advice.
The family would like to invite you to share "John Townsend stories"at the visitation at St. Peter and St. Paul Episcopal Church, 2310 N. Stewart Rd., Mission, Tx on April 11 from 6:30-8:00 pm. The memorial service will be held at St. Peter and St Paul on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society, St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church or the memorial of your choice.
