John Wesley Lingo, of Spicewood Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on August 5, 2021, at the age of 92. John was born in Austin, Texas on May 10, 1929 to parents James Walter and Elizabeth Sternadl Lingo. He joined the US Army, and as a Corporal, received a Purple Heart during his service in the Korean War.
Following in his father’s footsteps, he went on to spend 71 years as a member of UA Local 286 Plumbers & Pipefitters in Austin. During his time, he was their very first Apprenticeship Training Director, continuing as an instructor for 30 years. He was recognized in 2010 with the construction of a new training facility and the creation of the “John W. Lingo Distinguished Service in Training Award” Wall.
John’s legacy continues with his son, James, and three grandsons (Shawn, Seth and Nolan), making 4 generations of Lingo’s as members of Local 286. John continued his good works with the Knights of Columbus, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Marble Falls, TX where he served for 15 years. He enjoyed being a cook for the Fish Fry dinners held every Friday during Lent and serving as an Usher.
John loved the outdoors. His passions included fishing, hunting, gardening, and creating works of art in metal and wood.
John was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Ranly Lingo. He is survived by the family who will forever love him dearly: his current wife Ann Chandler Lingo; his children, Bernadette (Brad) Lingo; James (Debra) Lingo; Gretchen (Micky) Shipman; Jennifer (Dennis) Shedd; Ray (Tina) Chandler; Ron Chandler; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and his sister Jane Lingo.
Visitation will be at 5:00pm on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home, Marble Falls, TX followed by a Rosary at 7:00pm. A funeral service to honor John's life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, August 12, 2021, at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Marble Falls TX.
In lieu of flowers, John's wish was for donations to be made to the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Texas Capital Chapter 1919, PO Box 3185, Cedar Park, TX 78630 or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo TX 79105.
