Our beloved, Joe Allen Roberts, was called home by our Lord on October 10, 2024 at his home in Bertram, Texas. Joe was born on March 3,1948 in Austin, Texas and was the fourth of five children born to James Jefferson (Jeff) Roberts and Alma Fay (Teat) Hays Roberts. Joe was 10 years old when his family moved to Houston, Texas. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. Joe proudly served his country and did two tours in Vietnam between 1967 and 1971. While he was stationed in several different places including Italy, Virginia, Fort Hood, and Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, his love for traveling began. Colorado Springs is where he met the love of his life, Josephine (Josie) Katherine Martinez. They were married for 52 years as of July 29, 2024. Joe and Josie had their first child, Matthew Allen Roberts, in Colorado Springs where they spent a short time before moving to Del Valle, Texas to help Joe’s mother after the loss of his father. Joe received an Honorable Discharge from the Army after serving nine years, six months, and nineteen days. Joe then served in the Army National Guard until he was Honorably Discharged on April 15, 1982. Joe and Josie had their daughter, Misty Marie Roberts shortly after returning to Texas. They raised their children in Del Valle. Joe was a free spirit full of life. Along with being a strong family man, he loved fast cars and motorcycles! He taught his love of fishing, shooting guns, and riding motorcycles to his children. He was in his late 70’s before having to give up his motorcycle! Joe was a good man with a loving heart. He was always willing to help anyone. Joe wasn’t a man of many words, but if he loved and respected you, it was known. Joe believed in always doing the right thing, even when it was hard. Joe had to start over in his career more than once, but he always rose to the top with his hard work and his work ethic. The light of Joe’s life was his grandchildren! He gave each of his grandchildren a nickname once they were born. During his last days, all his grandchildren brought him great happiness!
Joe is preceded in death by his loving parents, Jeff and Fay Roberts, his brother, Leonard James (Buddy) Roberts and wife Doris Dildy Roberts, sister, Evelyn Ruth Roberts Luce and husband Herman Larry Luce, and brothers-in-law Harold Major and Bill Moan.
