Joan Foster Yost went to Heaven on January 8, 2024. She peacefully passed away at home with her husband Denny, her sister-in-law, Carmen and hospice social worker, Carol. She was born in Mississippi and grew up in Marble Falls.
Joan was a brilliant student and knew from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher. She earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Mary-Hardin Baylor and later earned her Master of Arts Degree in Education. She taught English at Dickinson, Texas, Tempe, Arizona, and at Pacific Beach Junior High and Mission Bay High School in San Diego. She retired after 40 years of teaching and went back to work helping schools with her expertise in several programs. She loved her students and made every effort to help them succeed in life. Joan was selected as High School Teacher of the Year, out of thousands of teachers, in the San Diego Unified School District. She was well loved by her students and kept in touch with many of them for years.
Joan had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano for the church and her friends. She was talented in many areas. She loved playing bridge, volunteering at her church, knitting prayer shawls, and staying connected with her neighbors and friends. She loved animals, especially her dachshunds, Gus and Brunhilde, Holle, and Sophie.
Joan loved to have family and friends come visit her and Denny, and she delighted in showing them all the interesting places that San Diego had to offer. She was a gracious hostess and always treated everyone with respect and love. She loved to travel. She traveled in Europe when she was young and took many cruises with her family and friends, as well as bus trips, trips to Washington D.C., Nova Scotia, and Hawaii, and many other places. She loved her friends and family exuberantly. She especially loved her niece and nephews and her great nieces and nephews. She loved to spend the holidays with them. She made a difference in the lives of all who knew her.
In 2016, Joan and Denny experienced health issues and moved to an assisted living facility in Marble Falls to be close to family.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, Ellie Foster. She is survived by her husband Denny, her brother, Billy and wife Carmen, and their son Shane and wife Nayelli Wall, and son Sean and wife Queshya Wall , sister-in-law Nancy Foster and daughter Kristin Sagebiel and son Chad Foster, and eight great nieces and nephews that she absolutely cherished, Josh, Lillian, Jaylee, Kolton, Jonathon, Isabella, Sophia, and Lili.
