David Shrubar, age 63, of Marble Falls, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on May 15, 2024, probably falling asleep while watching the Longhorn Network or an old western. David was born on November 11, 1960, to Louis and Ruby Shrubar in Llano, Texas. Growing up in a small neighborhood just off Lake LBJ, David enjoyed swimming in the cove and playing basketball outside, hooping at home on a small rim screwed onto a telephone pole. He attended Marble Falls High School where his love for basketball brought him much success, including a McDonald’s All-American nomination. After graduation, David worked in construction, eventually running heavy equipment side by side with his father Louis.
David enjoyed all things sports. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles, the San Antonio Spurs and Milwaukee Bucks, and of course the Texas Longhorns. David might’ve been the biggest Longhorn fan you’ve ever met, naming players and coaches from the 1960s and beyond, rattling off current recruiting prospects, and arguing why Texas was and always will be better than Texas A&M.
Aside from sports, David was an avid lover of music, mostly classic rock. He would often turn his tv to the Sirius XM radio stations and lay back and listen to the Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Eagles, and anything that took him back to a memory from his younger days.
David had what seemed like an endless number of friends. Anywhere he went in Marble Falls he would always run into somebody he knew, talking to them about the old days or catching up on where they were in life. At home he was always on the phone with someone, sometimes for hours, talking about everything and nothing.
Most importantly, David loved his family. His two daughters, Jordan and Brianna, and his son, Brian, were his pride and joy. Even during a Longhorn game David would be thinking of them, texting how the referees were paid for or asking about a sick grandchild. He loved his two sisters, Susan and Danene, and his nieces Melissa and Michelle, and all their children. He was also so thrilled and grateful to have gotten to watch his grandchildren, Addison and Owen, grow into happy young kids.
David is survived by his children, Jordan, Brianna, and Brian; his sisters Susan and Danene; nieces Melissa and Michelle; grandchildren Addison, Billie, and Owen, and his dog Belle. And of course, the Texas Longhorns.
