Charles Louis Hoffman, son of Albert L. Hoffman and Lillian Denson Hoffman was born on December 16, 1935 in Warren, Texas. His long battle with Parkinson’s disease came to an end at age 85 on April 11, 2021 in the presence of his beloved wife, Sanny Sue Holland Hoffman, daughter Beth Chauvin and staff at Celeste Care Assisted Living in Horseshoe Bay.
He was a graduate of the Warren public schools where he lettered in football and basketball. In his youth he spent much time raising his F.F.A. calves, hunting, camping, and fishing with cousins in the piney woods of East Texas.
While attending Lamar University he entered active duty in the U.S Army. After leaving Ft. Lewis Washington, he spent the remainder of his duty time in Japan. He was a member of the Honor Guard and played on the Army volleyball team, providing him many travel opportunities throughout Japan and nearby countries.
Charles’ Property and Casualty Insurance profession saw him traveling the state of Texas extensively, working with municipalities, school districts, private schools, colleges and universities.
Most of his career was based in San Antonio, Texas where he was active in a Lion’s Club, holding many officer positions.
His love of golf and fishing brought him to Horseshoe Bay for his retirement years. Recreational travel, both in the U.S. and abroad, was very much a part of his life. The heat of Hill Country summers found him in the mountains in a motorhome camping near a place to trout fish, enjoy nature, with a set of golf clubs always nearby.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of sixteen years, Sanny Sue Holland Hoffman, daughter Beth Chauvin and husband Bob Voorhies, Layneigha Holland, Stacy Holland and daughter Harper and his “Borrowed Daughter” as he referred to Amy Guadarrama, their caretaker.
He is also survived by a special sister-in-law Carolyn Hoffman, a niece Brandy (Jim) Bell and nephew Brad (Salina) Hoffman, their families and a host of cousins.
Charles was predeceased by his wife, Mary Cromer Hoffman, his parents and a brother, Joe Hoffman.
Anyone wishing to send a memorial may do so to the Remembrance Garden Fund, The Church at Horseshoe Bay, P.O. Box 8295, Horseshoe Bay, Texas, 78657. Charles was a long time member of the church. A tribute for Charles has been set up at the Parkinson’s Foundation Greater Texas Chapter 1-800-473-4636.
The Family wishes to express their appreciation to Celeste Care and the staff who cared for Charles over the last year and a half, Baylor Scott & White Hospital, and Texas Home Health Services Hospice.
