Born to Grover C. and Daisy Hanes Hailey of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he spent his formative years. Coming to Mansfield in 1954, he soon adopted Mansfield as his second home, with gratitude and allegiance to both.
Remaining are three nieces: Margaret Elizabeth Tucker of North Carolina; Joy and husband, Dr. Robert Lee Tucker of Wellington, Oh; Sue and husband, Dr. Scott A. Anderson of Columbus, Oh and Betty Smollen, Ontario, Oh, long-time friend and caregiver for both Margie and Bill.
Preceding him in death were his soul mate and caring wife, Margie Kauf Hailey, a career teacher and counselor, his brother, Dr. Paul W. Hailey and his wife Marilyn, formerly of Mansfield, Oh. Mr, Hailey attended Wake Forest University in his native North Carolina and was graduates with a Bachelors Degree in Education from Ashland University; he received his Masters of Arts degree from the Ohio State University in English Education.
Mr. Hailey was a career teacher serving at Mansfield Senior High School and Malabar High School, with concurrent teaching at Ashland University.
A brief service will be held at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Ontario, Ohio on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 12:00 pm with visitation being held from 10:00 am -12:00 pm. Private burial will be held at Mansfield Memorial Park.
Flowers are to be omitted; instead, memorial contributions may be made to the William G. and Margie Kauf Hailey English Scholarship fund through the Richland County Foundation. The scholarship will be awarded to a deserving Mansfield Senior or Malabar High School student(s), past or current who have expressed an interest in teaching English in the Mansfield area and are recommended by their respective school.
