Vera I. Cooper, 82, passed away early Thursday morning with her loving husband and son by her side, December 9, 2010 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. Born July 10, 1928, in Liberty Township in Crawford County, she is the daughter of the late Eva Heiber and Orlo H. Light. Vera was an accomplished organist, sharing her talent with several area churches. She also enjoyed performing with the Mansfield Symphony Choral Society for a number of years. Vera also performed secretarial work for Sears and the Crawford County Extension Office. She attended Wittenberg University where she majored in music. Vera volunteered her time with Mansfield General Hospital. Being a cancer survivor herself, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society performing various duties. She was past President of the local chapter of Chi Omega Sorority. Vera blessed many organizations throughout the community with the selfless giving of her time, including the American Red Cross.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Philip R. Cooper; son, Steve Cooper of New York City; sister, Carrie E. Smith of Virginia Beach, VA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Warren Light.
Funeral services conducted by Pastor Dawn Donato will be Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in rural Bucyrus. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
