Ruby M. Westlake, 79, of Mansfield, died Sunday morning, August 16, 2009, at Crestwood Care Center. Born February 4, 1930, in Ripley, West Virginia, she was the daughter of Lewis and Mabel Richard Lane. Ruby married the love of her life, George Westlake in 1950, beginning their life together in Newark. In 1964, she and George decided to move their family to Mansfield where she worked for 30 years at Martin Hardware as a clerk. Together, she and her husband enjoyed motorcycle riding and wintering in Dade City, Florida for many years throughout their marriage. Ruby enjoyed reading, doing jigsaw puzzles, and bird watching. An accomplished seamstress, she loved sewing for her four daughters making everything from Barbie doll clothes to bridesmaid dresses for their weddings.
A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by three daughters, Denise Al Dodson of Crestline, Anita Jim Them and Nelda Roger Williams, all of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Brady Jaclyn Dodson of Galloway, Abby Dodson, Jerod Lee Them, of Mansfield, Jennifer Them of Columbus, Jordan Them and Amy Williams, of Mansfield; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Ella Them of Mansfield and another special addition due in September; a sister, Helen Jim Morrison of Thornville, OH; a brother, Gene Hattie Lane of Dade City, FL; a brother-in-law, James Shirley Westlake of Newark; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended family. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George "Willy" Westlake in 2005; beloved daughter, Marilyn Westlake in 1968; and her parents.
Friends may visit from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2009, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Pastor David Case will conduct the services. Burial will follow in Newark Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
