Rob was born January 28, 1954, to Robert and Carol Mae (Bender) Beegle in Mansfield. He graduated from Ontario High School and Penn State University. He spent his career as an accountant working for several companies in the Mansfield area, as well as an extended stint in Dallas, TX.
Rob excelled at golf and wrestling in high school, and was also a standout bowler, which was his life-long passion until his knees would no longer cooperate. He was also an avid dart thrower, participating in local leagues as well as playing for fun at several local establishments.
Rob's passion for sports as a fan was always on display. He cheered on Penn St. teams above all, but rooted for Ohio State whenever they were not facing the Nittany Lions. He was as die-hard a Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavs fan as you will find, and -- like many others in Northeast Ohio -- spent most of his life being sorely disappointed, but always holding out hope that one day he would get to witness a championship. Only the Cavs came through for him. Rob was always up for good-natured needling with fans of the opposing team, and had an incredible recall of players, dates, games, and scores.
Rob's good nature, sense of humor, and infectious laugh will be remembered by many. He always enjoyed the hilarious stories told and re-told at any Bender family gathering. Being an only child and the oldest of a small band of Bender cousins, he was looked up to by the others as more of a fun-loving big brother, and they have cherished memories from the holidays and other times spent together.
Rob was raised by his single mother, Carol, who predeceased him in 2013, with a lot of help from his grandparents, the late John Harvey and Margaret (Schafer) Bender. Also preceding him in death are an aunt and uncle, Dorothy (Bender) and Robert Besch, and an uncle, Richard Teagar. He is survived by an aunt and uncle, Linda (Bender) and Charles Butler of Indianapolis, and three cousins, John (Beth Short) Besch of Columbus, James Besch of Marion, and Loree Boldman of Scottsdale AZ.
There will be no memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
