A veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Vietnam War. Bob worked in the construction field and was a member of the Sons of Herman and a former member of the Amvets. He loved riding his motorcycle and spending time with his family especially at bonfires. He was a loving and kind husband who stuck with his family through thick and thin. His favorite saying was "steel don't bend, but it might rust a little".
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Rose (Ward) Au; children, Robert (Bobby) James Au, Jr., Tammy Au, Kristy Au, Robert Tanner, Janice Martin, April Phinazee, Ryan Au and Alan (Tiffanee) Au; grandchildren, Brett Angel, Jashawn Au, Amariauna Stoudmire, Tara Tanner, Dakohta Tanner, Little Man Deighton, Amanda Phrampas, Briteny Brown, Matt Cooley, Ryan Au and Jordan Au; a sister, Jane (Benny) Thompson; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James Au, Betty Jane Workman and Chucky Scarberry, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan Snodgrass and Linda Guthrie.
Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond Street, Mansfield. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Sid Ramey will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home where military services will be held by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
