He was born January 27, 1947, in Gary, Indiana, and lived the past 29 years in Mansfield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force retiring as a Master Sergeant Air Traffic Controller after 26 years of service. Dick was a reserved man with a laid back demeanor who enjoyed order and efficiency and epitomized the definition of a gentleman. He was a loving, caring man who enjoyed many activities including: fishing, hunting, bowling, golf, and mowing the lawn. Dick was an avid bird watcher and had an extensive collection of lighthouses. He had an insatiable sweet tooth and enjoyed his Nutty Buddies, Twinkies, Whoppers malted milk balls, and Hot Tamales.
Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mieko (Toyomoto) Cook; three children, Steven (Andrea) Cook, Andrew (Michelle) Cook and Jennifer Cook; five grandchildren, Austin, Reagan, Andrew, Tyler and Chandler; two brothers, Robert (Maryanne) Cook and Randall Cook; a sister-in-law, Kiyoko Sexton; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John (Edyth) Cook; sister, Ethel Bono; and a sister-in-law, Eileen Cook.
The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2021, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The memorial service conducted by Celebrant Mark Dettmer will follow at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
