Miriam C. Nixon, 93, of Mansfield, died early Saturday morning, May 21, 2005, at Crystal Care Center after a brief illness. Born January 5, 1912, in Yellow Springs, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Adeline Henry Huddleston. She graduated from Ashland University and taught in the Mansfield City School system for 25 years. Miriam was a member of First United Methodist Church and also a member of Susanna Circle, United Methodist Women and the Enrichment Group. She loved to garden, read, mow the lawn, clean house, drive her car, feed and watch the birds and take care of her Pomeranian.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Dan Varra of Windsor, Colorado, Gloria and Bob Mitchell of Mansfield; three grandchildren and their spouses, Daniene and T.J. Valencia, Dean and Angie Varra and Kevin Varra; three step grandchildren and their spouses, Holly Mitchell, Grant and Teresa Mitchell and Heidi and Scott Fickes; two great-granddaughters, Adele and Hannah Valencia; and a sister, Juanita Kemp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth G. Nixon and daughter, Nancy Carol.
Friends may call at the Diamond Street home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Friday, May 27, from 6-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Charles Tobias. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church.
