Marilyn J. Eckstein, 63, of 1666 Westover Lane, died Thursday morning, November 6, 2003 at Riverside Hospital. Marilyn had fought a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born January 4, 1940 in Crestline, raised in Tiro, and spent most of her married life in Mansfield after graduating from Tiro High School in 1957. A graduate of The Ohio State University, Marilyn had taught at Ontario Schools before becoming active in the family business, D&M Plastics. She was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Friends and Flower Garden Club, a past member of the Mansfield Choral Society, and Co-Chair of the Richland County Friends of Trinity Lutheran Seminary. Marilyn enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, working puzzles, playing the piano and traveling. The love of Marilyn's life was her family whom she adored dearly, and who will miss her greatly.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, David Eckstein; one daughter and son-in-law, Shelley and Mark Fisher of Ontario; one son, Jerry Eckstein of Shelby; three grandchildren, Bryce, Travis and Arianna Fisher; her mother, Margaret Shoup Hanna; two sisters, Janet Hanna of Tiffin, Ohio and Sally Knapp of Kirkpatrick, Ohio; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Hanna.
Friends may call at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors Sunday, November 9, 2003 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Paul L. Larson. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Tiro, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marilyn J. Eckstein Memorial Scholarship Fund to benefit an Ontario student attending The Ohio State University Mansfield in care of the Richland County Foundation.
