Loretta was born in Dickinson, North Dakota in 1934 to Mathias and Eva Wagner. She graduated from Gladstone High School as the salutatorian of her 1952 class, and attended Dickinson State Teachers College. During her school years she participated in 4-H Club and, throughout her life, had fond memories of the rolling hills and the Heart River near the family farm where she grew up. She last visited her beautiful home state in 2011.
In 1953 she moved to Mansfield, joining other family, and her parents later followed. She joined Therm-O-Disc, Inc. and enjoyed a long career of 42 years, making many close friends, and retired in 1995. She married Wilson K. ‘Scotty’ Wemyss in 1957 and they spent most of their 31 years together in Mansfield with their three children. She is remembered fondly for her skills as a homemaker, and for her ability to leave everything better than she found it. Her home was particularly beautiful at Christmas, and she created magic with her lights and decorations.
A longtime parishioner at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Loretta was also an active member of the Tri-Parish Medjugorje Rosary Prayer Group, often hosting the group in her home.
Loretta was preceded in death by her husband and parents, and by her siblings, Albert, Elizabeth, Anna, Eva, Mary, Karl, Paul, and John.
She is survived by her three children, Leslie of Wilmington, DE, Barbara of Long Island, NY, son Curt and his wife Jan of Mansfield; her five grandchildren, James (Amanda), Lauren (T.J.), Brent, Scotty, and Dalton; her nine great-grandchildren, Alexis, Brayan, Bryson, Dex, Julian, Bridget, Cassandra, Parker, and Khailar; and her two sisters, Alice Berick of Mansfield and Lorraine (Gerald) Cooper of Hartselle, AL.
