Janice Beverly Remy, after a short illness, passed away at home on December 21, 2017 at age 91. Janice was born in Mansfield on August 19, 1926 to Mary Elizabeth (Sindlinger) and Raymond D. McCollough. Valedictorian of her class, she graduated from Madison High School in 1944. After his service in the Army Air Corp during World War II, she married her high school sweetheart, Lewis Frank Remy, on July 12, 1947. They enjoyed nearly 66 years of jubilant marriage before his passing in 2013 and now they are together again.
After high school, Jan worked for Richland Bank. With the birth of her son, David Lewis Remy, in 1949, she became a stay at home mom and remained so until he went off to college when she went to work in the Mansfield Municipal Clerk of Court office. She remained there until the new city building opened when she chose to retire and return home as a homemaker and to assist Lew in operating his real estate business.
A truly faithful person, Jan and Lew were founding members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. She is currently a member of Little Washington Congregational Church where, when health and weather permitted, she attended service weekly.
Extremely talented, Jan was a great seamstress, a consummate cook and blessed with art and craft skills few could match. In addition, she was a meticulous housekeeper and lover of flower gardening. She also remained close to her high school classmates enjoying monthly class breakfasts and coordinating the class’s 70th reunion in 2014.
Jan is survived by her son, David, and his wife, Therese, of Mansfield, a step-granddaughter, Elyse (Robert) Cox of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, two greatgrandchildren, Cecelia Marie and Owen David Cox, a brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Marilyn McCollough of Strongsville, Ohio, a sister, Marabelle (McCollough) Remy of Mechanicsburg, Ohio, nephews, Tim (Nancy) Remy, Pat Remy, Mike (Mona) Remy and Keith (Terri) McCollough, nieces, Linda (Tom) Moore, Lori (Dave) Barch and Beverly (Rich) Bragg, along with numerous great nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Jan was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Frank and Marietta Remy and brother-in-law, Charles Remy.
A memorial service for Jan will be conducted by Pastor David Root of Little Washington Congregational Church on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with calling hours beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the church sanctuary. Private internment will occur at a later date.
While Jan had many friends, her family would like to especially like to thank, Alma Fisher and Jana Fisher for their companionship in the last several years since Lew’s passing as well as Sue and Kim Foster and Ray and Virginia Applegate. Additionally, the family would like to thank, the staff of OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, Riverside Methodist Hospital, Crystal Care Center and especially the loving care of the staff of Ohio Health Mansfield Hospice. The moment they entered Jan’s home they became family and we will be eternally grateful for the love, dignity and respect they showed our mom. We were humbled by their dedication to the difficult calling they have chosen. In addition, we would like to thank Wappner Funeral Directors for the assistance they provided with funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Jan’s family wishes that memorial contributions, in her memory, be made to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospice, the Little Washington Congregational Church’s Scholarship Fund, the Salvation Army or any other organization of the giver’s choice.
