Damon Michael Mauk, age 18, of Lucas, Ohio, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023 as the result of a car accident. There are angels that walk among us and we don’t realize it until they’re gone; Damon was one such angel. His family will keep him close to their hearts forever because love never dies.
He is survived by his mother Andrea Malea Mauk, father Robert Lloyd, Jr., and stepfather Edward-Patrick Ife Oluwa Akinyemi; brothers Robert Lloyd III and Jeremiah and Joshua Lloyd; grandparents Rick and Deb (Kurbad) Mauk and Catherine Preston; uncles Derek Mauk and Emmanuel Harris; aunt Tordenia Taylor; cousins Carter and Catalina Taylor, Nakyla Lee, and Elias Mauk; and many more cousins, uncles and aunts. Special friends Caden Thompson and Ben Baker. His bonus Mama’s, Stacey Oldfield-Baker, Jessica Brown, and Jacque Arnold.
He is preceded in passing by his great-grandparents Paul and Helen Kurbad and Jim and Hazel Mauk; uncle Nathaniel Lloyd; and brothers Dre Vehion Lloyd and Carrio Paul McDowell. Damon graduated with Honors from the class of 2023 at Pioneer Career & Technology Center (Shelby, Ohio) in Home Remodeling and Lucas High School (Lucas, Ohio).
Damon had to write his own eulogy for a 7th grade English assignment. He wrote the following:
“Damon. Damon was always missing a card from the deck. He was a gentleman and he tried to stick out by being funny, even when people didn’t see him. He was sometimes weird, but his family admired him, so he was a pretty ok person. He tried what he could to help others.”
Damon never knew a stranger, which is why he made memories with so many people in just 18 years. He loved wrestling, cars, his car community at Park Avenue, music, dancing, his impeccable sense of fashion, sunsets at the Clearfork Reservoir, and so much more. His mother taught him to love and be loved, and Damon certainly did that. Being his mother was the greatest gift she ever got. Damon was, is, and always will be his mother’s greatest achievement and the love of her life.
Even though he struggled in school for a long time, it was also the place where he showed us his most beautiful human qualities. Damon helped teachers greet kids in the morning so they wouldn’t have to do it alone, helped find teachers’ credit cards and return them in record time, and, when he heard about a teacher’s upcoming surgery, he took a moment to pray with him. Damon proved that in life it only matters if you are a good person to other people, rather than personal achievements. Damon was good to others even after he left this world. He saved the lives of 7 people by donating his organs and skin tissue when he passed. Even if he never met you, Damon truly never knew a stranger.
The family will have a private, invitation-only memorial service on July 7, 2023. There will be a Celebration of Life, which is open to all, on July 8, 2023 from 1-6pm to celebrate Damon’s life. It will be at the Lucas Community Center at 252 W Main St, Lucas, OH 44843 and there will be a car show at the Celebration. Instead of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the “Damon Mauk Fund”. Donations can be made at any branch of the Park National Bank or through his GoFundMe “Honoring Damon” organized by Stephenie Angel. Keep the light shining Big Scorpio.
Wappner Funeral Directors-Mansfield is honored to serve the Mauk family.
