Cynthia Sue Wilcox, 81, of Washington, IL, passed away at 7:34 am on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, IL. She was born January 18, 1941 in Mansfield, OH to the late John Burns Craig and Ruby Faye (Yarger) Craig.
Surviving are two children, Steven Wilcox of Goodfield, IL, Amy Wilcox-Dietzman of Grand Rapids, MI; three grandchildren, Sawyer Wilcox of Goodfield, IL, Slater (Spencer) Wilcox of Goodfield, IL, Madison Dietzman of Grand Rapids, MI; two siblings, Louellyn (Cornelius) Robinson of Stow, OH, Randal Craig of Clanton, AL; nieces and nephews, Tyler Craig of Columbus, OH, April Marie Hammel of Pelham, AL, Lisa Robinson of Dayton, OH, Chris Robinson of Stow, OH, David (Dodie) Robinson of Stow, OH.
Cynthia was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School in Mansfield, OH where she was the Head Majorette and dazzled fans during football halftime shows twirling her Baton of Fire. (can you imagine allowing a high school student to do this today?) After graduation she took her civil service test and worked at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. She later was married and moved back to Mansfield, OH where she was a homemaker and earned her cosmetology license. She continued her love for being a Majorette by teaching classes at the YWCA, was a member of the National Twirling Teachers Association, and judged competitions.
She was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Mansfield, OH and sang in the choir. She loved playing the piano and would often play for services at the Salvation Army in Mansfield, OH. She later moved to Illinois to be closer to family and enjoyed watching her grandsons play baseball, basketball and soccer. She attended East White Oak Church in Carlock, IL with family until her health failed, but was always asking “what do you need prayer for” and “how are my grandkids?” She had a remarkable memory (she always knew when the time change was), a talent for music, perseverance no matter the storm, and prayed without ceasing! She will be dearly missed, but celebrate her homecoming with the Lord Jesus Christ where she is without pain and has a perfect body without blemish. We have peace knowing that we will be reunited with her again in heaven!
Visitation will be from 5 to 7pm Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. Her funeral service will be at 2pm on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Wappner Funeral Directors in Mansfield, OH, with visitation one hour before the service from 1 to 2pm Friday at Wappner Funeral Directors. Burial will be at Windsor Park Cemetery in Mansfield, OH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army of Peoria, IL.
