A perfect day for any motorcyclist would be one where the sun is shining, the skies are blue, roads are dry and the winds are still. February 17, 2017 was exactly this kind of day, and the day that Carl Thomas Breit, 56, of Galion, Ohio, transitioned from earth to heaven following a year-long illness. He was surrounded by love and peace with his wife, close friends and family by his side. He is now resting comfortably, free from pain and heartache, in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Carl was born May 7, 1960 in New York City. He grew up in Nanuet, New York and was a Nanuet High School graduate. He held degrees from St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York and Sullivan County Community College in Loch Sheldrake, New York. He gained many friends and boasted of many memories created during his tenure at the Platzl Brauhaus in New York. The majority of his professional career, after moving to Ohio, included 16 years of service with United Telephone/Sprint and 11 years of service with Lifetouch. He served on the Board of Directors for CONTACT of Crawford County for the last two years. Carl was an ordained minister through MWC Evangelistic Outreach Ministry in Cleveland, Ohio and served multiple ministries in the area, including his primary church, Prevailing Word Ministries in Bucyrus, Ohio.
Carl’s greatest testimony was not in service or title, but rather in his genuine love and concern for people. His humility, quiet strength, gentle and kind spirit afforded him the love and high respect of all who knew him. He led by example and was a man of great integrity. He maintained a positive outlook and continued to make a difference in the lives of all he met and who cared for him during recent health challenges. He was regarded as a father-figure to many who called him “Pop” or “Pops”. He will be sorely missed by many, especially his wife and family, but will never be forgotten.
Carl is survived by his wife, Rhonda Breit; parents, Carl and Elaine Breit; two sons, Kristopher (Katie) Breit and Jeremiah Breit; daughter, Kaitlynn (Andrew) Bjerke; three brothers, Raymond (Donna) Breit, Thomas (Renee) Breit, and Anthony (Jiamhui) Breit; one sister, Jacquelyn (Edwin) Abreu; granddaughter, Rebekkah Bjerke; four nieces; four nephews; eight Godchildren; and two special cousins, Patricia and Billy Skidgell.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2017 at the First Church of the Open Bible, 1150 Rayfield Drive, Mansfield, Ohio. A celebration of Carl’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the church with additional visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to the family or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is honored to serve the family.
Motorcyclists will be accommodated as part of the processional for anyone willing to honor Carl’s memory with one final ride to his resting place.
