Born October 27, 1935, in Mansfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Nellie (Norris) and Clarence Au. In her children’s opinion, Betty was the best mom ever. She was a wonderful cook and baker with apple pie being her specialty. Her biggest love was her husband, Harold, whom she married on May 23, 1953. Family and her dog, Wally, were very important to Betty. She and Wally were like peanut butter and jelly-perfect combination together. She was a lifelong member of the Daughters of Herman and loved to go on cruises, try her luck at gambling and play Bingo.
Betty is survived by her husband of nearly 71 years, Harold Messer; three children, Butch (Brenda) Messer, Jodi (Rodney) Robertson and Shelly Pavlansky; five grandchildren, Heather (Christ) Ticoras, Holly (Jason) Cox, Hope (Steve) Steifel, Garrett (Caitlin) Pavlansky and John (Drucilla) Pavlansky; five great-grandchildren, Madeline, J.D., Faith, Jerzie and Jack; a sister, Dollie Kovinchick; and a special nephew and niece, Bill and Joyce Messer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosie Appleman; and a brother, Richard Au.
