James L. Garrity, 89, passed away on December 24, 2021 at home. Jim was born in the Bronx, NY, the youngest of six children. He served in the Korean War 1952-1954 with the prisoner exchange program in Korea and Japan. He had a long career as Traffic Manager at Select Magazines in New York City and later at The Clark Estates, where he enjoyed working with those engaged in managing the Baseball Hall of Fame, particularly since he was a lifelong, dedicated Yankee fan. After diligent research, he found the gravesite in Belgium where his brother, Frank, was buried after he was KIA in France during WWII. We made that trip to Belgium, and Jim finally felt some closure. In retirement, he enjoyed making greeting cards, personalizing each one to the recipient using his very own “Silver Fox” wit and logo. Jim was blessed with a great sense of humor always finding the light side of difficult issues. He was attentive to detail, and loved the challenge of the Sunday Times crossword puzzle. He was interested in current events, history, cooking and sports.
Jim leaves behind his beloved wife, Pat, and several nieces and nephews who knew him always lovingly as Uncle Jimmy. A funeral mass at St. John’s Church in Lakehurst is planned for Friday January 7, 2022 at 10 am, followed by private services at Brig. Gen. Doyle Cemetery in Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
