Charles "Bob" R. Redfield Jr., age 88, of Toms River, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Shorrock Garden Complete Care on Sunday March 10, 2024, with his loving wife and sister-in-law by his side. Bob was born to Hilda and Charles R. Redfield, Sr., on August 31, 1935, in Trenton, New Jersey. He lived in Millstone and moved to South Brunswick at the age of 15. Bob graduated New Brunswick High and then enlisted in the US Navy, serving from 1954 to 1958, during the Korean War. He worked as a welder for Gemco in Middlesex, NJ, and Gammon Technical Products, Manasquan, NJ. Bob was a master craftsman, he collected airplane kits, built model trains, and designed planes. He was an avid reader of hardcover books, especially books on WWII, trains, planes and Bill O'Reilly. He also drew for a newsletter from Texas, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing chess. Bob was also a member of the Masonic Lodge Knights Templar, Carson Commandry #15 Harmony Lodge #18.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 31 years, Diane M. Matyas, her daughters, Kristin Bewick and her husband Brian, the late Elena Matyas and her late granddaughter Roxie Forbes, and Sharon Matyas and her wife Lisa Sadowski, and her grandchildren Joseph Thomas and Wyatt Matyas. Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law Harriet Werkman and her husband Nick, Sr, and nieces and nephews, Daun and John Ward, Tonja and Matt Pallone and Nick Werkman, Jr. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Bruce Redfield.
A visitation for Bob will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 4 to 7 pm at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home, 3010 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759, with a masonic service to take place at Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 6:00 to 6:15 pm. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 11:30 am to 12 pm, at the funeral home. A committal service with military honors will follow at the Brig. General William C. Doyle, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562.
