Norman A. Dahl, 85, died February 20, 2015 at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton after a brief illness. He was born in Dorchester, Mass. on February 1, 1930, the son of Henry and Mary (Robertson) Dahl. With his family he moved to Manchester at an early age, and was educated in the local school system. He attended Webster Elementary School and was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.
Following his graduation, Norman enlisted in the US Air Force and proudly served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he was employed as an insurance investigator with the Equifax Co. and served in the NH Army National Guard for over 18 years where he was a member of the 139th Army Band. He loved jazz music and was a talented musician who played the piano in many local bands. He was a member of the Musicians Union and entertained at the Center of NH during the 80’s and 90’s. Norm enjoyed the outdoors, especially his time spent hunting and fishing and would not allow himself to be disturbed when cheering for his favorite Boston sports teams. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great- grandfather.
He was predeceased in March 2004 by the love of his life, his wife Mary, after 54 years of marriage.
Members of his family include his four sons, Randy Dahl and his wife Mary of New Boston, Thomas Dahl of Laconia, Richard Dahl of Royal Palm Beach, FL and Robert Dahl of Weare, his two daughters Sandi Caulfield of Raymond and Susan Linares and her husband David of Salisbury, NH, 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, his brother William Dahl of San Francisco, CA and his sister Carole Dahl of Palm Bay, FL as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was held on Wednesday February 25 from 5 to 7 pm at the McHugh Funeral Home 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in Manchester. A Memorial Service was celebrated on Thursday February 26 at 11:30 am in the funeral home. Urn burial followed at 1:30 pm in the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Norman’s name be made to the Wounded Warrior Project PO Box 758517 Topeka, KS 66675.
