Francis L. Mitchell, 80, of Manchester, died June 16, 2016 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Goffstown on October 13, 1935 the son of Leo and Ethel (Moffett) Mitchell. He lived in Goffstown and Auburn before settling in Manchester and was educated in the local school system.
He was a proud veteran of the US Air Force serving both in the US and overseas. Following his discharge, he worked as a carpenter for a number of construction companies before starting his own business. Francis loved his time spent outdoors and was the consummate hunter and fisherman and was blessed with a green thumb and could be found tending to his well- manicured garden. Family and friends were very important to Francis and he will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Claire I. (Grenier) Mitchell in 2007 and by his son Steven Mitchell.
Members of his family include his three daughters Kathryn Colby and her husband Raymond of Raymond, Debra Mitchell of Manchester and Kimberley Lacasse and her husband Marco of Hooksett, his son Dennis Mitchell of Florida, his 10 grandchildren Shayne, Nicole, Stephen, Matthew, Sarah, Savanah, Antonio, Dylan, Marcel and Christopher and his 10 great-grandchildren as well as eight brothers and sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There were no calling hours. Inurnment with military honors took place on Wednesday June 22 at 10 am at the NH State Veterans Cemetery 110 DW Highway in Boscawen. The McHugh Funeral Home was entrusted by the family with his care.
