Dennis M. O’Donnell, 60, of Manchester died at his residence surrounded by loving family on August 4, 2010 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Manchester on September 26, 1949, the son of the late Joseph and Rita (Bergeron) O’Donnell and had lived in Manchester most of his life.
He was educated in the local school system and had been employed for many years by the NH Department of Transportation. He was later employed as a security guard at Catholic Medical Center until illness forced his retirement.
He enjoyed a wide variety of activities including scuba diving, spelunking and enjoyed traveling and computers. He was noted by family and friends as a problem solver and tinkered with all sorts of things in addition to being an accomplished auto mechanic. Above all else he cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and other family members and will be loved and deeply missed by them.
Family members include his wife of 18 years Debra J. (Raymond) O’Donnell of Manchester; two sons, Michael O’Donnell of Concord and Brian O’Donnell of Manchester; a daughter, Susan O’Donnell of Hampton NH; a step daughter, Jessica Gurney of Bedford; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Patrick O’Donnell of Rochester NH and Thomas O’Donnell of Allenstown NH; two sisters, Nancy O’Donnell of Manchester and Cathy Guay of Hooksett as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre deceased by a brother Brian O’Donnell.
Calling hours were on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM in the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., corner of Hanover St. A funeral ceremony was held in the funeral home on Saturday at 2 PM. Rev. Douglas Rickard will officiate. Cremation followed. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Southern NH VNA Hospice, 33 S. Commercial St. , Manchester NH 03101.
