Peter, son of Leonard and Gerda (nee Lisser) Goldschmid, was born in the Free City of Danzig. In 1938, he, his parents, and sister Karla immigrated to the U.S. to survive the Holocaust. As a young adult, he enlisted in the U.S. army. He married Faith, the love of his life, in 1965. They were married for 56 years and after several years in Suffern, NY, they settled in Freehold. They have 3 children, 2 grandchildren, and a niece. Peter’s family refer to themselves as the Goldsmith 11- and say they were shaped by his positive outlook on life.
With his signature handlebar mustache, Peter loved to sail, loved to sing opera, and loved to workout. Some of the major highlights of his life were performing at Carnegie Hall, giving Holocaust Testimony as an advocate at Kean University, and every sailboat ride he ever captained. He cherished spending time with his family in Lake George and celebrating with cousins at the “Thanksgiving House.” He sang with the Twin Rivers Opera Company and the Shrewsbury Chorale. And he loved his Goldsmith 11.
Peter is survived by his sister Karla Lowy, wife Faith Goldsmith , their 3 daughters and their spouses: Fern and Max Seltzer, Jessica and Doron Barzilay, Joy Goldsmith and Lya Bone, his niece Laura Brounstein, and grandchildren Jake and Rebecca Seltzer.
It gives his family such comfort to picture him sailing to his final resting place with a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
