Norman was born in Brooklyn, New York, on April 29, 1941 to Sylvia and Hyman Pomerantz. He was a loving brother to his brother, Richard and sister, Jane. Many do not know that Norman survived an identical twin brother, Arthur. Norman lived a full life surrounded by family and friends in Brooklyn, NJ, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Belle Mead, NJ and since 2007 in Monroe Township, NJ.
Norman graduated with many degrees ending with his doctorate in Psychology from New Mexico State University. This degree led to 40 years at Summit, New Jersey as a school psychologist and his 20 years at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ in the Emergency Room. He spent his retirement years travelling the world with his wife while participating in activities with family and friends.
Norman is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Susan, his daughter, Debra Apuzzo with her husband Phillip and their daughter, Mattingly and his daughter Melissa Deutsch and her husband Todd, and their children Talya, Shayna and Boden.
Norman’s greatest pride and joy were his four grandchildren who he celebrated daily. He was known as a decent, gentle, kind, generous, selfless, caring and loving man by all who knew him. He will live on in our memories forever.
Funeral services will be held at 10AM on December 6, 2024 at Bloomfield Cooper Jewish Chapels, 44 Wilson Ave, Manalapan Township, NJ, followed by burial at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, New York.
The funeral service was previously livestreamed via Zoom.
Shiva will be observed at Susan and Norman’s home on Friday, December 6th following the burial and will continue Saturday night from 7:00pm – 9:00pm, with services at 7:30pm each evening. Shiva will continue Sunday, December 8th from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 7:00pm – 9:00pm, same times from Monday through Wednesday night until December 11, 2024.
