Barry Swerdloff

Born in Plainfield, NJ, he was the son of Samuel Swerdloff and Ida (Zorwick) Swerdloff. Barry resided in Piscataway, NJ before settling in Manalapan in 1978.

Barry was pre-deceased by his beloved partner of 38 years Concetta “Connie” Lauria. He is survived by his daughter Stephanie Lauria Kissner along with her husband Christopher and their children Emily, Ryan and Greyson of Manalapan, his son Alan Swerdloff along with his wife Mary and their two children Andrew and Catherine of Rhode Island, his brother Michael Swerdloff along his wife Patricia and their two children of Somerset, NJ, his step-daughter Denise Lauria Venitelli along with her son Dimitri, his step-daughter Lynda Lauria, his step-son Richard M Lauria along with his son Richard J LaurIa all of Manalapan, as well other family and friends.

Barry devoted most of his service life to the NJ Lions, International District 16D and associated charitable foundations. He twice served as the District 16D Governor of the NJ Lions in 1970-1971 and from 1989-1990, as well as served other offices of the local 16D club. You could always find Barry in the kitchen, preparing spaghetti dinners and pancake breakfasts for the club's efforts.

Prior to retiring, Barry was an entrepreneur. He owned and operated a number of pharmacies in Plainfield as a young man and partnered with a limousine service during the latter part of his career. Barry was always an avid fundraiser and philanthropist; Helping others without wanting praise or reciprocity.

He was a beloved partner, father, grandpa (poppy), uncle and friend to many. He made a positive impact on everyone he met and was well-liked around the community. Remembered by friends, care practitioners and colleagues as a kind-man -- he was always there when you needed him.

A private cremation is planned under the direction of Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels, Manalapan. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Barry’s life at a later date.
