Robert J Killen

Retired Jersey City Police Inspector Robert J. Killen, 88, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully on July 2, 2020. Robert (Bob) was born in Morristown, NJ and raised in Jersey City. Bob is predeceased by his wife Lorraine of 58 years. He is survived by his son, Robert H. Killen and daughter, Susan Viscardi of Manahawkin, NJ, granddaughter, Marissa Viscardi and Travis Waltz of Little Egg Harbor, grandson, Zachary Viscardi of Tuckerton and his beloved Great-Granddaughter Seaerra Waltz.

Bob Killen had an unparalleled 36 years of service with the Jersey City Police Department. He was appointed Patrolman on October 21, 1958, patrolling the streets for 20 years at the 6th Precinct before making his way up through the ranks of Sergeant on April 19, 1977, Lieutenant on July 10, 1981, Captain on July 17, 1985 and finally Inspector on April 9, 1988. Along the way he was the recipient of three Commendations, two Excellent Police Service Awards, and One Class “C” Award before retiring on July 1, 1994. He loved the job and he loved the city being a lifelong resident till 2003 when he and his wife Lorraine moved to Manahawkin to be near their daughter and grandchildren.

As much as Bob loved his life on the force, he also loved his retirement making the most of it by spending his time with his grandkids and a lot of traveling with his wife Lorraine. He played Senior Softball, pool at the clubhouse and was an avid bowler throughout his life. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was extremely funny. He always lit up the room whenever he entered it. He was exceedingly generous, touching many lives in his lifetime and will be very much greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020 from 3-6PM at the Thos L. Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at 11:30AM at St. Mary of the Pines, 100 Bishop Lane, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
